Paradox is a performance thilges3 did for the Museum for applied Arts (Mak) in Vienna. The performancewas technically designed as an liveinstallation for two rooms. The austrian military orchestra and a string quartett, where performing their program to the audience.
Thilges 3 recorded them with several microphones to rework this signal live with their synth. The reworked signal could be heard via quadrophonic PA in the second room.
It was thilges3 idea to create a paradox situation for the recipient. There was the collaboration with an the austrian military which was the main sponsor of this performance.
At the moment austrian musicians cant stop keeping active distance to our new rightwing government (movements like electronic resistance , volkstanz.net etc.), while forgetting their strictly unpolitical work the years before. As we all should know the electronic music and dj-scene is male dominated. Even last years Prix ars electronica for digital music was given to a strictly male project. So we are still wondering what "next sex" is about . Big parts of the scene are organiced in the way of male friendship groups. One can see this everywhere. Thats why we wanted to confront the peope with a male military orchestra. And, as what we did not expect, people applaused to them. It was thilges3 point to provoke different ways of view to the audience. The performance of the orchestra was contrasted by the austrian string quartett "goldberg quartett" playing the great composition "Logos" of our friend ali schindloffsky. The peformance was documented by the austrian filmmaker ralf jacobs with
lots of cameras. Currantly we are working on a video to make the paradoxon to be answered.
paradox was recorded live on jan. 31 2001 at MAK (Museum für angewandte Kunst Wien)

Thilges 3 - Mak (Thilges)
