At first listen one could think Thilges 3 goes classical. At second it´s more like Thilges 3 dissects classical. A military orchestra performs in one room of the Viennese museum for applied art followed by a string quartet. Thilges 3 reside in another room behind their gear and sample the transmitted music in real time to digital crumbles. The very busy first piece, aside from a few loud bangs, atomizes the military orchestra and disfigures it to almost unrecognizable bits. The second piece only lightly embellishes the strings with glitches and crackles. The last piece turns to the military orchestra again, but this time incorporates it into the trademark Thilges analog electronics until the warm pulse gains the upper hand. In between short echoes of the audience reaction and busy murmuring is audible. I believe Thilges 3 tried to break away from their calm electronic pattern and avoid repeating themselves. It took a while for me to get used to the semi-plunderphonic sound, but after a few listens I once again fully succumbed to their captivating sounds. Experiment was successful.
